Commission Towers, Collingwood Postcard Wholesale Pice

The Commission Flats in Collingwood are a paean to the idealistic 1920s and ’30’s when social reformers were drawn to the siren-song of Modernist ideas about ‘cities in the sky’. This ’60s-era public-housing scheme in Collingwood was the work of Australia’s Housing Commission – established in 1937 to ease the terrible living conditions in slums across Australian inner cities – but as the years went by the Modernist dream developed dirty edges and the tower-block hopes of the Housing Commission soured. The scale and conformity of these buildings – scattered in locations across central Melbourne – has made them architectural icons.

Inspired by art from the 1950s and 60s, Harper and Charlie use vintage print techniques to achieve their authentic feel. If you look closely you might be able to spot the careful details – slipped registration, slight colour-bleed, or light scuffs in the design – that give these beautiful designs their warmth and character.
